Yes or No? by Charles West Cope, 1873

Last August I signed up for a program affectionately known as the Rebellion. Bottom line, is for one to live out their dreams; which has manifested in some ways as my New Years resolutions or goals. One of which is to get paid for my writing, for it to become a supplementary source of income. While this might be more feasible if I focused on editorials and non-fiction pieces, I do like a challenge. Besides I am more of a heavy-adjective kind of girl so naturally lean towards fiction.

At the start of the year, my library began it’s revived writer’s group now known as Inklings. For months I wanted to submit something new for review, but each month the meetings snuck up on me. To be honest, I was not sure what to write. . . For a variety of reasons I shall not get into at this point, I decided to try my hand at writing a short story/fantasy novella. This is all made more interesting, since I really do not read fantasy! On one hand, this is a good thing, my writing will be fresh and a different take than what is currently out there. On the other hand, real diehard fanatics of the genre might cry foul at my randomness and mashing up various canons and tropes.

So here is my plan (because of course I have a plan. I am Type A, after all), I am currently typing up my plot outline and writing down my character’s analysis on index cards (the idea which I completely stole from a friend). I will use Inklings as a touch point for critiques as well as my small Fantasy Reader Circle, which I am leaving up to my friend. A group of four Fantasy fans, for their input. Lastly, my own family will have a go at it.

I have a Master Plan as to where this novella fits in my life, my ambitions, and my future. This is all you get for now. As my cousin said “Wow, D, you just from Creative to Crazy in a few seconds.”–Ah, the fine line between genius and crazy . . .
